Sibling House Video

This video, created pro-bono by Jeff Hindle of Hindle Media, is the story of how Sibling House became a reality and the progress we have made. Here at Sibling House, we believe that “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” and it is in this philosophy that our mission is moving forward.  You have shown us time and time again, how working together, we can make a difference. With the help of people like you, we can provide much needed support for these kids in our community.  Working together and with your generous support, anything is possible. We are grateful!

Annual camping trip – Camano Island

    Hi Everyone,

We’ve dialed in the date for the annual Sibling House Network camping kickoff to Camano Island State Park – June 12 (after school)-14. We traditionally go the first weekend after school is finished for the year but Father’s Day falls on that weekend’s Sunday and we felt that connecting with father’s would keep some from joining us. For those that have not participated in this annual trip. Camano Island State Park is of course, on Camano Island, about 40 miles north of Seattle. As a state park, foster homes are allowed to stay for free. Bring a copy of your license and lay it on your dash board. The staff there is really great to work with. Try this link for more information: http://www.parks.wa.gov/484/Camano-Island

Typically, one of us heads up earlier in the day and reserves a bunch of sites close to each other. Then they call us and let us know the site numbers. Since we will know by your affirmative RSVP how many are coming, getting that many sites is not usually a problem. Lynne and I and family usually arrive about 7 PM and you can always call my cell, 425-681-9288 and we’ll let you know what sites to head towards. Sibling House will bring hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, some fluids, goodies, etc to add to whatever you bring. I will bring a BBQ to cook the hamburgers/hot dogs/veggie burgers for Saturday night dinner. All other meals you should plan for your family and if we overlap or pot luck a bit, all the better. Bring your tents, or trailers, or motor home. These sites do not have hookups. Restroom/shower nearby. Picnic tables and fire pits with each site. Fresh water available within the park.

During the day on Saturday, we will again head down to the beach, hopefully with a lot of sun. Bring towels, chairs, drinks, sun-block, food. It’s easy to walk to the beach but we also take some vehicles.

Let us know if you can join us or if you have any questions.

    Annual Fundraiser Auction

Wow! What a wonderful evening we all had at the 13th Annual Sibling House Auction on Saturday! Held at The Washington Athletic Club in downtown Seattle, the place was filled with generosity. The WAC staff made us and our guests feel important. Our planning and production team are incredible. The evening came off without a hitch. Lady Yum of Kirkland, supplied all the Dessert Dash desserts and they were a gift to our eyes and our taste buds! Pat & Chris Cashman, our MC/Auctioneers, kept the night hopping and really entertained our guests. And our guests opened their hearts and their wallets and made the event a huge success. We are humbled by the support and faith that so may generous people donated to help Sibling House continue our mission of providing support to a network of homes where siblings can stay together, as a family, while in foster care. It Takes a Village….and we are truly blessed to have so many people in ours!Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

    Annual Sibling House Holiday Party

Well, they did it again! The Take Action Club, with the leadership talents of Diane Baron and Kelli Landers, came through with a truckload of toys for the kids at the annual Sibling House Holiday Party. 230 kids and parents attended the party! Parents were able to ‘shop’ at the toy store which really helped with the expenses of the holidays with a house full of kids. And all the smiles that the toys will create on Christmas morning: Priceless. Thanks so much Rosa Parks Elementary Take Action Club! You kids are awesome! Santa arrived after dinner and gave out a stocking made especially for each child there. Santa’s Super Elves Esther Ames and Diane Curtis did a super job helping to procure and fill all those stockings. Thanks ladies! And the Foster Child Holiday Book Drive was a huge success. Every child in attendance received $50 in books courtesy of Tabatha Roach and Usborne Books and More. Beautiful high quality books! We have received many thank you notes and comments from the parents in our network. Thank you Tabatha!
It was a great evening that would not have run so smoothly without all the hours of work our volunteers contributed. We are so grateful for all the support from the community. It Takes a Village…..Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

    Book Fund Drive

Once again Tabatha Roach and Usborne Books and More are holding a fundraising drive to raise money for 175 kids to have a $50 shopping spree at our annual Holiday Party. In the first 24 hours, Tabatha has raised enough funds for 56 kids! Nice work Tabatha! If you would like to make a donation towards this terrific holiday gift and help improve the future of a child by teaching them to read, go to Foster Kids Holiday Book Drive.

    Children’s Book Author Party

On March 9th childrens author and illustrator Michelle Nelson-Schmidt presented a book signing for kids and caregivers in the Sibling House Network. All the kids received a three book signed set and a Whatif Monster.

Approximately 50 kids and 25 caregivers attended this first annual event where Michelle talked about the challenges she faced growing up and how she became inspired to write and illustrate a set of books about meeting challenges and developing an attitude about never giving up. She read her book “Jonathon James and the Whatif Monster” and gave a whatif monster stuffed doll to all the kids in attendance.  Everyone had a great time and we look forward to another “Author in House” event in Spring 2014.

Thanks Michelle for taking time out of your busy schedule to make time for the kids! You’re the best! Visit Michelle’s web site at http://michellepaints.com/index.html
